Kennesaw, GA – March 9, 2026 – The Credit Union of Georgia Community Foundation is proud to announce a new partnership with Hobgood Baseball aimed at strengthening youth sports and supporting community initiatives across Cherokee County.

Through this partnership, Credit Union of Georgia is encouraging families and community members to get involved in a program that gives back directly to the local baseball program. When new members join Credit Union of Georgia and select Hobgood Baseball during the application process, $50 is donated to the Hobgood Baseball program and an additional $50 is contributed to the Credit Union of Georgia Community Foundation, helping support youth athletics, education initiatives, and local charitable programs.

“We are always looking for meaningful ways to invest in our communities,” said President/CEO of Credit Union of Georgia. “Partnering with Hobgood Baseball allows us to support youth development while also engaging families in opportunities that strengthen both their financial future and the programs that matter most to them.”

The partnership highlights the shared values of teamwork, leadership, and community involvement, principles that are central to both youth sports and financial success.

“This partnership is about more than baseball,” said Michelle Dobbins, VP of Marketing and Foundation board member at Credit Union of Georgia. “It’s about creating opportunities for families to support local programs while learning how financial institutions like credit unions reinvest in the communities they serve.”

Credit Union of Georgia kicked off the partnership by participating in Opening Day at the Hobgood Baseball Complex on Saturday, March 7, where team members were onsite celebrating the start of the season with players, families, and volunteers. The Credit Union hosted a booth with giveaways, connected with local families, and shared information about the membership promotion that directly benefits the league.

“Our employees love being part of events like Opening Day because it allows us to engage directly with the families we serve,” said Amanda Arnold, Director of Community Outreach for Credit Union of Georgia. “Supporting Hobgood Baseball is another way we can give back to a program that plays such an important role in teaching teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence to young athletes in our community.”

Hobgood Baseball serves hundreds of youth athletes each season, providing opportunities for boys and girls in the community to develop baseball skills, build friendships, and learn important life lessons through sports.

Managing credit card debt can feel overwhelming, but understanding your options is the first step toward taking control. One option you may hear about when exploring credit cards is a balance transfer. Whether you’re managing personal or business debt, knowing how balance transfers work can help you make smarter financial decisions. Simply put, a balance transfer is when you move the outstanding balance (or part of it) from one credit card to another credit card. Here’s what that really means:

You are not eliminating your debt — you are shifting it from one credit card account to another.

This is most commonly done to take advantage of lower interest rates, especially promotional introductory offers.

Once the transfer is complete, you make payments to the new credit card issuer under the new terms (including the new interest rate and due dates).

For example, if you have a credit card balance of $5,000 with a high interest rate on one card, and you’re approved for a new credit card with 0% APR* on balance transfers for 12 months, you can shift that $5,000 debt to your new card. During the promotional period, you could pay down that principal without accruing interest.

How Does a Balance Transfer Work?

1. Apply for a Card with a Balance Transfer Offer

Most balance transfer cards include a promotional interest rate

2. Provide Transfer Details

To initiate a balance transfer, you’ll provide the new card issuer with:

The name of the old card issuer

The account number

The amount you want to transfer

The issuer will handle the actual payout – meaning that the financial institution will pay off your first card’s balance directly.

3. Repay Under the New Terms

Once the transfer is complete:

Your debt is on the new card

Document your new cards payment schedule

Set up Bill Pay to make sure you never miss a payment

Balance transfers don’t happen instantly — they can take several days to a few weeks to complete — so keep making payments on your old card until it shows a zero balance.

How Balance Transfers Can Help Consumer Cardholders

For consumer credit card holders, a balance transfer can be especially helpful if you’re looking for a structured way to reduce interest and regain control of your finances. A balance transfer may be a good fit for you if you:

Carry a balance on one or more high-interest credit cards

You’re making payments, but feel like the interest is slowing your progress

Want to consolidate multiple balances into one monthly payment

Have a plan to pay down debt during a promotional or lower-interest period

Prefer predictable payments and clearer payoff timelines

Balance transfers tend to work best for members who are committed to paying down existing debt and want to make their payments work harder toward the balance itself—not just interest. When paired with responsible spending habits, this option can support long-term financial wellness and peace of mind.

How Balance Transfers Can Help Business Cardholders

For business owners, managing debt strategically can be just as important as generating revenue. A balance transfer may be a smart option when high-interest credit card balances are impacting cash flow or limiting growth opportunities.

A balance transfer may be a good fit for your business if you:

Carry existing business credit card debt at a high interest rate

Want to lower monthly finance charges to improve cash flow

Need a more organized way to manage business expenses

Are planning ahead for steady repayment without taking on new debt

Want to focus on growth instead of compounding interest costs

Business balance transfers work best for cardholders who have a clear repayment strategy and consistent revenue. By reducing interest expenses, business owners may be able to redirect funds toward operations, inventory, or future investments—while keeping finances easier to manage.

Is a Balance Transfer Right for You?

You may be a good candidate for a balance transfer if:

You currently carry a balance on a high-interest credit card

You want to reduce the amount of interest you pay overtime

You have a plan to pay down your balance, not just move it

You prefer one monthly payment instead of multiple bills

You can commit to making on-time payments every month

You plan to avoid adding new debt while paying off the transferred balance

Consumer Cardholder Checklist:

Your debt comes from everyday or unexpected expenses

You want to simplify your finances and regain momentum

You’re focused on improving your overall financial wellness

Business Cardholder Checklist:

High interest charges are impacting your cash flow

You want clearer tracking of business expenses

You have consistent revenue to support a repayment plan

You’re looking to reduce costs while keeping operations moving

A balance transfer can be a smart tool when used thoughtfully. It can save you money on interest, make repayment easier, and help refocus your financial goals. But, like all financial products, it works best when paired with a plan — and a trusted partner to help you understand the full picture.

Buying a car is exciting, but figuring out the financing can feel overwhelming. At Credit Union of Georgia, we make it simple and stress-free by helping you get pre-approved before you ever step foot on a dealership lot. Pre-approval gives you a clear picture of what you can comfortably spend, so you can shop confidently and focus on finding the right car for you, not just the right price tag.

Here’s exactly how the process works and what to expect along the way:

Step 1: Apply Online or In-Branch

You can start your application anytime—whether or not you’ve already picked out a vehicle. Apply online here, stop by any of our seven branch locations to get started in person, or give us a call using one of the numbers below.

Local Number: 678-486-1111

Toll-Free Number: 1-888-672-5242

When you apply, you’ll fill out a simple form where you can note whether you already have a car in mind.

Step 2: Talk With Our Team

After you apply, one of our team members will reach out directly to learn more about your goals, needs, and preferences. Think of us as your trusted advisor. We’ll walk you through costs, help estimate your monthly payments, and make sure you understand exactly what your financing might look like before you start shopping.

You may be asked to provide a copy of your current auto insurance and proof of income so we can complete your pre-approval file.

Step 3: Quick, Local, In-House Decision-Making

Once your application is complete, it heads to our local underwriting team for review. Because everything happens in-house, decisions are made quickly—often the same day.

When approved, you’ll receive a pre-approval letter that shows dealerships that you’re already set with financing. You can take this letter with you when you shop for your vehicle.

Step 4: Go Car Shopping With Confidence

With your pre-approval in hand, you can shop just like a cash buyer. When you find the right car, you’ll provide your pre-approval letter to the dealership.

You’ll likely go through some price discussions and negotiations with the dealer. If you’d like, our team can help review offers and ensure you’re getting a fair deal. All you have to do is give your dedicated team member a call.

Step 5: Finalize Your Purchase

Once you and the dealership agree on a final price, the dealer will prepare a buyer’s order which is the document listing your purchase details. You’ll share that with us, along with proof of insurance and income (if we don’t already have them).

Our team will review all the paperwork to confirm everything looks correct and issue a check for the purchase. Before we finalize, we’ll go over your final rate, loan term, monthly payment, and any dealership fees to make sure everything matches your expectations.

Depending on the dealership’s policy, you may either leave with your car right away or after they receive our check. Either way, we’ll coordinate directly with you and the dealer to ensure a quick, seamless process.

Understanding What Affects Your Loan Approval and Rate

Kennesaw, GA — Credit Union of Georgia is proud to close out the year on a high note, celebrating the generosity and community spirit of its employees during the 2025 holiday season.

During the month of December, Credit Union of Georgia employees volunteered their time to ring the bell for The Salvation Army at the Kroger on Cherokee Street in Kennesaw. Over the course of one week, 48 employees contributed nearly 100 volunteer hours, raising $3,611 to support The Salvation Army’s mission of serving those in need.

The impact was doubled thanks to the Credit Union of Georgia Community Foundation, which matched the funds raised dollar-for-dollar. As a result, a total of $7,222 was donated to The Salvation Army to support vital programs and services in the local community.

“We love ending the year on a positive note, and our employees truly embodied the spirit of ‘Doing the Most Good’ this holiday season,” said Amanda Arnold, Director of Community Outreach. “Their willingness to give their time and energy during such a busy time of year reflects the heart of who we are as a credit union.”

Credit Union of Georgia extends its sincere gratitude to every employee who volunteered, as well as to the Credit Union of Georgia Community Foundation for amplifying the impact of their efforts. This initiative highlights the credit union difference of people helping people, especially when it matters most.

The conversion to a new core banking platform was finalized on July 7, following months of planning, testing, and member communication. This upgrade enhances the credit union’s ability to serve its growing membership with improved efficiency, security, and flexibility.

“We’re excited to bring our members a more modern and responsive banking experience,” said Brian Albrecth, CEO of Credit Union of Georgia. “This upgrade allows us to offer new features, streamline operations, and continue building a future-ready financial institution.”

Key Benefits of the Upgrade:
