MACO is now Credit Union of Georgia

In 1960, 7 local educators wanted to develop a place where employees of the Marietta City and Cobb County school systems could borrow money from one another in a cooperative. Since being founded, we've provided educators and their families a way to borrow and save money.

Over the years, we've grown by offering membership to a variety of educational groups including other school systems, private schools, colleges and universities.

We have continued helping our members grow with financial solutions tailored to fit their needs. But now it is time to open a new door. On June 1, 2007 a vote was approved to convert MACO Educators FCU from a Federal to a State chartered credit union. We can look toward the future, but always remembering where we started. The educators and their families are what our credit union is all about.

By becoming a State chartered credit union, it will open the doors to affiliate with other organizations in our community and continue to grow. Growth means opening new branches, expanding our products and services, and allowing us to conveniently serve our members in our community.

By becoming a State chartered credit union all deposit accounts will continue to be insured by the NCUSIF, your member number will remain the same, as well as all other services. MACO has not been bought, nor have we merged with any other financial institution. The Credit Union is still 100% owned by you, the members.

With the change of MACO Educators Federal Credit Union's charter from a Federal to a State chartered credit union, another change must be made. By converting to a State chartered credit union, we have to remove the Federal from our name. We thought long and hard about changing our name. Sure, we could just change our name to MACO Educators Credit Union, but we wanted to change the name to something that would encompass all of our affiliated select employee groups. Currently the acronym MACO represents MArietta City and CObb county schools, from where we were founded. However, we now serve Cherokee and Paulding county schools, Appalachian Technical College, Chattahoochee Technical College, Kennesaw State University, Reinhardt College and many other private schools and colleges along with many of the students associated with these institutions. We wanted a name that exuded strength, encompassed everyone, and would grow with us in the future. Thus, Credit Union of Georgia was born.
